Philanthropy
At POQAS, we believe in using our platform to make a difference, and that's why we're proud to support the talented artisans in Ecuador who make our hats by hand.
Unfortunately, many of these artisans are struggling economically due to a variety of factors, including competition from cheaper, mass-produced hats, the difficulty of finding high-quality materials, and a lack of access to markets and distribution channels. Additionally, many younger generations are choosing to pursue other professions, leading to a shortage of skilled artisans to carry on this traditional craft.
In 2012, the traditional method of weaving of the Ecuadorian toquilla straw hat was inscribed on to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Your purchase of a POQAS hat not only supports small businesses, but also directly benefits the artisans who made it. By supporting them we're helping to stimulate the local economy and ultimately, helping to promote sustainable development and preserve the unique cultural heritage of this vibrant region for future generations..
By choosing to buy from us, you're helping to create a more just and equitable world, one hat at a time.
Thank you for your support!
